Sec 1 is when study habits start to matter. Give your child a head start.
Why I built this
I’m a parent, and I teach my child at home. In Sec 1, I saw a gap. Students are told what to study, but nobody shows them how to study.
So I built The Secondary Classroom: a study aid, a study buddy. Each chapter becomes short notes, then flashcards, then a quick quiz. You see what went wrong, and you get a way to fix it.
I used these notes and this method with my own child, and within 3 months her grades improved a lot.
It does not replace school or your teacher. It helps a student study better with what they already have.
– Sarah C., a Singapore parent and creator of The Secondary Classroom
How it helps you study in a structured way
Many students just reread and hope. Here, every chapter follows the same five steps, so you always know what to do next.
- Step 1
Read
One page of short notes. Key words are in colour.
10 min - Step 2
Recall
Flip the flashcards. Say the answer before you flip.
10 min - Step 3
Test
Quick 10 shows what you really know.
5 min - Step 4
Fix
Read the reason for each wrong answer. Redo them.
10 min - Step 5
Stretch
Practice questions from easy to hard.
15 min
Testing yourself and spreading practice over several days are among the best-supported study methods in learning research.
A sample week for one chapter
| Day | Do this | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Mon | Read the notes once, slowly | 10 min |
| Tue | Flashcards, then Quick 10 | 15 min |
| Thu | Redo what you got wrong | 10 min |
| Sat | Practice questions: easy, then medium | 20 min |
| Sun | Quick 10 again, then try hard questions | 15 min |
A suggestion, not a rule. The daily goal keeps a small amount going each day.
Parents: this also shows you at a glance what your child should be doing.

Meet Tohma
Tohma is a cadet at Mission Control. He is a character, not a real student. His job is simple: get you through Sec 1 Science with your head up and your score climbing. His robot crewmate Bolt keeps the notes in order, and Zip the alien cheers you on.
Why short notes matter
Long notes are hard to start and easy to skip. Short notes are quick to read, easy to repeat and light enough to carry. Reading them again and again helps the key ideas stick. That is what makes revision work, especially in the busy weeks before a test.
The boys’ edition has the same notes, flashcards, quizzes and practice questions as the main site, with Tohma and his crew beside you.

Someone beside you
Starting is the hardest part. Your science teammate works alongside you, like a study partner at the next desk.
That is called body doubling, and many people find it helps them start and keep going.
Practice testing and spaced practice are among the best-supported study methods in learning research.
